9/11 Workers Lose Advocate In Washington - July 04, 2008

The Bush administration's World Trade Center health czar will soon be out of a job.

Dr. John Howard, director of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, was told Thursday he will be replaced when his six-year term expires July 14th.

Howard was the president's point man on September 11th health issues.

But he was often at odds with the White House over his push to create health monitoring and treatment programs for workers who say they got sick at the Trade Center site.

The federal government last year cancelled plans to create a monitoring program for those workers, saying it was too expensive.
